British Values

What are British values?

There is some debate about the answer to this question; however, the document “Promoting fundamental British Values as part of the SMSC in schools” says “schools should promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”  It is this list of values that are used below as a basis for this statement.
